Folks, we made it.

13 hrs on a plane together and not a single argument.  As we disembarked (or deplaned as they say here, which always gives me a giggle) several people commented in surprise that there’d even been a kid sitting there.  And I didn’t even have to sedate him!  He watched a movie on the ipad, and then slept most of the night.  Unlike me.  I think I got 90 minutes’ worth of sleep, cumulative not consecutive.

But why on earth did I ask for the eggs for breakfast?  Like, duh, those things had been sitting there for 13 hrs, what the hell was I thinking?

Immigration was easy; we skipped most of the line because I had the child in tow and they were letting families forward.  At Customs, I declared that I had some chocolate cookies in my bags and the guy looked at me and said “Ma’am, do you have Tim Tams?  I’m afraid we have to confiscate ALL of those for our break room.”

And then we made it out and my super awesome imaginary friend Jessica was waiting for us – with bottles of water, bless her! – and we drove out to her house, with Arlo wide-eyed at the volume of track.  Like, woah, there’s 7 LANES on this road?  No, kiddo, there’s 7 lanes on THIS SIDE of the road.  And another 7 on the other side as well.  You shoulda seen his eyes bug out.

Jess had to head back into work so we hung out at her apartment with Emma the crazy shy cat and Sidney the not-so-shy tortoise.  When I say hung out, mostly we slept.  I’ve read you shouldn’t nap as it can exacerbate jet lag.  But, you know, I had jet lag.  So, a three hour nap and then we wandered down to the supermarket to pick up some snacks. DAMN fruit is cheap here.  EVERYTHING seems cheap here. Although eating out could get expensive with tips and everything.  Tipping still freaks me out, like the foreigner I am.

Jess got home from work just before 9, and Arlo and I were both perky as (since our body clocks were saying it was about 2pm).  So we went out to a vegan Thai restaurant (yummo!) and then we played a bizarre and addictive Wii game for two hours, finally crashing into bed around 1am.

No pics this post.  because I was too brain dead to get the camera out yesterday…
