One of the few things Arlo knew about the USA before we arrived was New York City’s Statue of Liberty. Any time I mentioned the trip to anyone, he would pipe up with “And the Statue of Liberty, that’s what we’re going to visit!”.
With my usual talent for planning ahead [ed note: NOT] I planned the whole trip to the Statue without checking whether or not it was open. And it was – well, the island was anyway. The Statue itself is closed until October this year for repairs and maintenance, so we could only visit the island and wander around the base of the statue.
We ate gross pretzels from a cart before boarding the ferry. GROSS. Real pretzels = winning. Streetcart pretzels = gross.
Stature of Liberty? Awesome. Even only from the outside.
